Gastritis

Gastritis occurs when the lining of the
stomach becomes inflamed or swollen.
Gastritis can last for only a short time
(acute gastritis), or linger for months
to years (chronic gastritis).
The most common causes of gastritis
are:
Certain medications when taken over a
longer period of time
Drinking too much alcohol
Infection of the stomach with a
bacteria called Helicobacter pylori
Less common causes are autoimmune
disorders, backflow of bile into the
stomach (bile reflux), cocaine abuse,
extreme stress or viral infection.
Symptoms you may notice are loss of
appetite, nausea and vomiting, and pain
in the upper part of the belly or
abdomen. If gastritis is causing
bleeding from the lining of the stomach,
then symptoms may include black stools
and vomiting blood or coffee-ground like
material.
FOODS TO AVOID AND FOODS TO EAT WHEN
YOU HAVE GASTRITIS:
Diet can always help a person deal with
certain ailments. Since gastritis occurs
in a persons stomach, diet does play a
huge role in helping a person take care
of this problem as well as avoid it.
Here are some tips on what to eat and
what to avoid with gastritis:
When suffering from gastritis, it is
better to avoid foods like deep-fried
foods, fatty foods, pickled, and salted
or salty foods.
Also try to avoid vinegar, except for
the very helpful apple cider vinegar,
mustard, coffee, alcoholic beverages,
hot peppers or spicy food, and
carbonated sweet drinks.
Some of the foods that can be helpful
to someone who has gastritis include
molasses, papaya, raw apples, almonds,
and raw tomatoes.
Mix together some spinach juice and
some carrot juice to help with soothing
the inflammation of your stomach lining.
Plain yogurt is also ideal for helping
with the neutralization of stomach
acids.
Don't eat solid foods on the first day
of the attack, give your stomach a rest
and drink liquids only, milk or water
are preferred.
Add bland foods to your diet slowly
and as tolerated (cooked cereals,
bananas, rice, potatoes)
Eat smaller servings and regularly
Quit smoking
Avoid alcohol and caffeine (coffee,
carbonated drinks)
Avoid NSAIDs
Avoid a diet that further irritate the
inflamed stomach lining
