Cholecystitis
Cholecystitis is a condition in which the gallbladder gets inflamed. Basically, the gallbladder is a small organ that is located just below the liver. Normal functioning of the gallbladder is very important for proper digestion. The gallbladder does the job of collecting bile, a fluid produced by the liver. The fluid helps to digest fatty foods. After consuming food, the gallbladder releases bile to promote digestion. When the bile moves out of the gallbladder, it flows through a tube like structure referred as cystic duct. It then travels down to the small intestine, where most of the digestion takes place.

Cholecystitis that brings persistent pain in the upper right abdomen can occur due to presence of gallstones, injury or infection.

DIETARY MANAGEMENT OF CHOLECYSTITIS:
Cholecystitis diet aims at preventing or relieving the health issues that actually trigger cholecystitis.
In most cases, cholecystitis occurs as a result of formation of gallstones. Thus, it would be sensible to avoid the foods that promote gallstone formation like alcohol, fried foods and fatty foods like red meat, egg yolk, butter, salad dressings, etc.

As aforementioned, choosing foods low in saturated fats is the best way to effectively manage cholecystitis diet. So one can include these foods in the diet:
• Rice
• Potatoes
• Pasta
• Yogurt
• Fruits
• Low fat milk
• Whole grain foods (wheat bread)
• Skinless chicken
• Lean meat
• Fish

Along with a cholecystitis diet, one should maintain a healthy weight. Overweight people are predisposed to gallbladder problems like gallstones. So, in order to keep the weight under control, following a high fiber diet is definitely a good option.
