Live right to stop Cancer
|
It is indeed depressing to witness a rapid increase in the cancer
incidence and deaths in recent years. Often many people do not
recognize the symptoms of cancer in its initial stages and
deteriorate the symptoms to the extent where it is almost incurable.
But it is more unfortunate that many people even after noticing some
unusual changes in their body hesitate and are scared of consulting
a doctor making the scenario worse. The chance to increase the life
expectancy of a cancer patient is to diagnose it early and start the
therapies as early as the first stage of cancer.
The probable cause, the risk factors and the age for developing
cancer is not limited. Heredity, exposure to harmful UV rays,
exposure to certain chemicals, faulty dietary habits and lack of
proper physical activity, drug abuse and even microorganisms may
increase the risk for developing cancer. Lack of education is one
thing but ignoring the probable factors and faulty lifestyle
behaviors is totally our lack of responsibility towards our health.
Urban living is certainly taking its toll in increasing the
incidence of cancer and other lifestyle diseases like hypertension,
diabetes, heart diseases, etc. Simple preventive actions can reduce
some of the risk factors that may be responsible in causing cancer.
Indiadiets team steps ahead to help you in taking care of your
family’s health and surroundings.
The best measure to prevent or fight cancer is to take charge of the
following:
Environment: Pollution is known to be one of the contributors for
cancer, for example, pesticides in farming, industrial water and
fumes, smokes coming out of vehicle, etc. The way to protect
ourselves is by cautious selection of our food, driving environment
friendly vehicle and by living in the area relatively away from
industrial exposure. Make sure of the cleanliness and safety of
drinking water supply. Stay indoors as much as you can.
Diet: A diet rich in fat especially saturated and trans fat can be a
contributor to cancer. The younger generation swaps green leafy
vegetables, dietary fibre and whole foods for fast, packaged,
heat-and-eat food which may contain carcinogenic additives and
preservatives. Choose fresh, organic and natural foods as far as
possible. Ensure to read label before selecting any packaged
product. Go for lots of fresh fruits and colored vegetables as they
are the natural sources of antioxidants and phytochemicals that help
in fighting the toxins and carcinogens.
Lifestyle: Tobacco is a major contributor to head and neck cancers.
It can affect other organs as well. Smoking is a major cause of lung
cancers. Passive smoking is known to expose person to non-small cell
lung cancers. Avoiding breastfeeding is counter-productive as is the
use of unhygienic sanitary napkins (exposure to infection and
cervical cancers). Certain oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) and
hormone replacement therapies (HRTs) can make patients vulnerable to
cancer (although recent studies have actually proved the opposite).
Delayed age of conception and obesity are also considered risk
factors. So stop smoking and chewing tobacco, go for any medication
with permission from a registered medical practitioner, stay fit,
healthy and stress free by adapting to some physical activity
routine and meditation.
Most importantly it is be your own scrutinizer to keep a check on
your external body changes and internal symptoms. Any usual illness
like flu, cough and cold, diarrhea, constipation, menstrual changes,
skin pigmentation, unusual feeling of fatigue or restlessness, etc
if elongated should not be ignored and should immediately get
diagnosed by an experienced doctor. More so every individual must
make it a habit to go for a periodic health check-up after the age
of 40.
