Crystal
& Gem Therapy
Since
ancient times, healers and medicine men have held that stones have
psychic powers and energies and that they exert a great influence on
all aspects of our lives. It is believed that stones are living
entities, pulsating, radiating, vibrating at different rates; that
they create strong energy fields which enable us to be charged with
their energies; that they activate our abilities, soothe and comfort,
heal and balance through the purity and directness of
their beams.
It is being increasingly accepted today that gems and crystals possess
healing powers and that they speed up the healing processes of the
body. The theoretical basis of gemstone therapy is that each precious
stone has its own particular vibrational rate. The stones also emit
the magnetic power of the ray of light contained within. By placing
the stones within a person's aura, the vibrational rate of the
person's aura changes for the better. Often, the effects are indirect
but very potent. At other times, the effects are very direct. It is
believed that the more precious stones you wear, the more strongly you
will be charged with cosmic forces.
Sometimes the stones draw disease, pain and misfortune out of the body
of the person who wears them -- ruby and coral, for instance, fade
when the people wearing them have anaemia; stones like turquoise lose
or change colour when the wearer is not well (either physically or
psychically). Some other stones like diamond, emerald, and topaz give
their power to their wearer. Some stones, such as the amethyst, have
vibrational frequencies which can inspire spiritual awakenings or
which help people become more responsive to the concept.
The energies of gems are harvested in different ways. Some are
immersed in water, which absorbs their energies, and the water is then
used to treat disease. Other practices involve wearing particular
precious stones or placing them on specific parts of the body for
specific healing. Some stones serve well both ways -- cut or uncut.
But some need to be cut and polished to bring out their functions --
like the garnet, which truly works when it is cut, polished and
sometimes faceted. On the other hand, the amethyst works best in raw
crystal form. The best way to practice this therapy is to wear high
quality round beads around the neck. High quality stones are not dyed,
have no chips or fractures, and are not irradiated to enhance color.
A particular stone may work differently for different people. But as a
general rule, these are some of the properties assigned to the
following gemstones:
* Amber: lifts heaviness
* Carnelian: Balances creativity and mental processes
* Diamond: provides great protection against negative thoughts
and vibrations and increases personal clarity
* Emerald: Provides physical and emotional healing
* Green Fluorite: Brings hormone balance and is helpful with
hormonal changes such as PMS and menopause
* Jade: Brings relaxation and calmness
* Moonstone: Calms and soothes and helps with mild endocrine
imbalances in women
* Lapis: Expands the mind and broadens one's vision
* Malachite: Brings harmony into one's life
* Black Onyx: Helps one to change bad habits
* Frosted quartz: brings balance; the smoky quartz is
protective
* Ruby: For love, overcoming fear and improving blood
circulation
* Sapphire: Brings mental clarity and clears mental garbage
